With its ties to history and pop culture — The Bowery, is possibly one of the most well-known streets in the world. An emblem of New York City’s consistent contradictory nature, even in its present state. Despite its 2013 addition to the National Register of Historic Places, the street, the historic character and remaining low to middle income residents are still at risk of eradication. The Bowery Alliance’s Windows on the Bowery project aimed to preserve this unique integrity, partnering with Cooper Union and placing 64 poster placards in the windows of historic sites along the Bowery.
