Serkin concludes his program with a work of Johann Sebastian Bach one of his only pieces published within his lifetime the seminal Goldberg Variations.

Haydn's Fantasia based on an Austrian folk tune introduces similar influences in Bartk's bagatelles, themselves based on Hungarian folk tunes. She returns to Haydn with his buoyant F Major sonata, before Bartk's dance-inflected Burlesques. Schumann's Fantasie conclude the concert, displaying the composer's eye on the present in its dedication to Franz Liszt, and his love of history, with its echoes of Beethoven.

The wind players of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra are spotlighted in a program featuring versatile German violinist Carolin Widmann.Widmann, in her NYC debut, takes the lead in Kurt Weill's showstopping Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, which demonstrates the classical European pedigree of the multifaceted composer while dropping hints of the swinging Broadway style he would later adopt in full. Several works for winds by Mozart bookend the Weill Concerto: a transcription of the Overture to The Marriage of Figaro becomes a gauntlet of articulation by demanding a violinistic character from the woodwinds, and the program closes with the substantial, operatic "Gran Partita."
