Broadway's 'Amelie, A New Musical' to Close This Month

The musical version of the French film Amélie starring Hamilton alumna Phillipa Soo has achieved the annualand dubioushonor of being the first up-and-running-open-ended show of the 2016-2017 season to suffer the slings and arrows of zero Tony nominations. Well-intentioned and sweet, the musical was a hard-sell to tourists who comprise a big and important chunk of ticket buyers. Closing date is set for May 21st.

A statement released by the show’s producers reads: “It has been an honor and privilege to work with the brilliant, talented team of writers, actors and creatives who have brought Amélie to life for the past two years, from Berkeley Rep, to Center Theatre Group, to Broadway. We’d like to express our gratitude to all of them, as well as the audiences who have shared the experience with them and with us.”

On the up side for fans of the production, this coming May 19th the original digital Broadway cast recording will be released and its in-store version will be available on June 7th. To pre-order, visit AmelieBroadway.com.
