What is Pet Parenting? Is it an anthropological phenomenon or a marketing term? Or something in between? And what are the implications of pet parenthood for both humans and pets?

Join us for an informative chat with Dr. Shelly Volsche where we will discuss the rise of pet parenting, how it varies in different cultures and what it means for the human-animal bond.

Dr. Shelly Volsche, Ph.D. is a biocultural anthropologist, professor at Boise State, and author of the book Voluntarily Childfree. She studies human-animal interactions, including the role of companion animals in modern families. This includes research into the practice of applying parenting strategies to pets in the home. Dr. Volsche has published research on topics such as

Pet parenting across cultures Multispecies kinship practices Cross-species communication One Health behavioral wellness If you have wondered about these topics and want a chance to speak directly with one of the pre-eminent researchers in this field, you don’t want to miss this!
