Wampanoag Celebration
Watch members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), both of Massachusetts, as they share their culture and history in a virtual celebration of food, art, traditional stories, and film.
The event features a talk by Chairwoman Cheryl Andrews-Maltais of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) on the history of the Wampanoag; finger weaving with Marlene Lopez; Muhsh8n boat building with Darius Coombs; storytelling by Tobias Vanderhoop; traditional copper work by artisan Jonathan Perry; and contemporary jewelry making by Berta Welch. Enjoy a cooking demonstration with renowned chef Sherry Pocknett, a film screening of King Philip’s Belt – A Story of Wampum (20 min.), and a conversation about a new community wampum belt with Paula Peters and Linda Coombs.
