New York, NY – Ashley Strongarm, Nevāda Nevada and Matt Duncan are excited to play a show at the Mercury lounge on February 16 to celebrate the release of the “Oh, Honey” single which is the 5th and final track from Ashley Strongarm’s Good Mourning EP. Produced by Justin Craig (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), the Good Mourning EP is a collection of songs based on the concept of the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. The front people from the opening bands, Kathryn Musilek and (fellow-Hedwig alum) Matt Duncan will be joining Justin Craig in Ashely’s backing band.
Most of the band members in the line-up have worked and even lived together in a number of arrangements including Justin Craig and Matt Duncan’s work together in Hedwig on Broadway, and the years that NN’s Andrew Gerhan lived with Strongarm’s keyboardist Lavinia Jones Wright and Justin Craig in Williamsburg, often acting as a house band for parties. And how about that one time NN front person Kathryn Musilek acted as Wright and Craig’s wedding officiant?? It should be a great party that perhaps even offers a sense of reunion after the last few years of not playing shows together. Everyone is invited.
ABOUT THE BANDS:
Ashley Strongarm Singer / Writer & Musician: @AshleyStrongarm Ashley Strongarm is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter who pulls inspiration from traditional folk, pop and classic country to create a sound that reflects her southern roots and current journey as a young musician in New York. Her music has garnered over 108,000 streams and she is currently working on her next single release with her producer, Justin Craig.
Nevāda Nevada Front person Kathryn Musilek is next in a loud line of women, long-interested in the male rock-god tradition. Her songs are rooted in an obsession with leaving and losing while still finding strength. Musilek fronts the band on piano and vocals, recalling influence nuanced in November Rain, Fiona Apple, and Frankenixon, in a powerful piano bass register. David Olson's drumming and Alicia Berbenick and Andrew Gerhan's guitar-and-bass swapping fill out the sound, bulking it up with heavy-duty, dance-able rock beats.
Matt Duncan Brooklyn-based, Kentucky-born, and 70's-obsessed… Matt Duncan is the Elvis of self-doubt. For fans of AM Gold who are burned out on love songs.
Venue: Mercury Lounge
