Renowned Artist Aida Murad opened her first solo exhibit in New York City, dedicated to grandmothers. She created this exhibit to process the grief from the passing of her grandmother since she could not attend the funeral in Jordan due to COVID restrictions. She is presenting 14 paintings and an installed community canvas for visitors to paint in honor of their grandmothers. Aida Murad paints all her paintings with her fingers and forearms due to previously being semi-paralyzed for 4.5 years due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her mission is to help people feel seen, heard and loved through art. They say the darker the shadow the brighter the light. Her Rheumatoid Arthritis was her shadow. Her art is her light and serves as a light for others. When she was in a place of suffering, she turned to art to help her heal. However, she didn’t paint with paint brushes, she painted only with her hands to demonstrate to herself and to the world that she is not damaged, and this dysmorphia will not define her. Aida’s work has been featured globally including in Voice of America, Reuters, TRT World, Al Jazeera, and the United Nations. She has collaborated with Grammy Award winning artists including the drummer from The Doors, John Densmore, to use art for social good. Her paintings have been acquired globally including by the Qatar America Institute for Culture, Board Member of the National Museum of Mexican Art and the previous Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights under Obama's administration at a historical landmark in Chicago. This is her 17th exhibition, with 10 previously sold out collections.

The exhibit is open to the public till March 7th, 2022 at Founders Lab NYC, 972 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11211. Open hours are during the weekends from 10 am – 6 pm, and during the week viewings are by appointment only. Appointments may be booked by emailing Aida at [email protected] or messaging her on Instagram @MuradAida
