The Apollo presents our free Apollo Open House 2020: Celebration of Cool, sponsored by THIRTEEN, with support from Firelight Media and WBGO-FM. This event is co-hosted by our tour director, Billy “Mr. Apollo” Mitchell, and MetroFocus host and producer Jenna Flanagan (as seen on THIRTEEN, WLIW21 and NJTV) and DJed by Keanna Faircloth, host of WBGO’s Afternoon Jazz. Apollo Open House will honor the legacy of the legendary Miles Davis, and looks back on the Apollo’s place within Black history and ahead to our upcoming season. This event includes live performances and an advance screening of the documentary American Masters—Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool before its national PBS broadcast premiere, followed by a post-film panel moderated by NJTV News Correspondent/Anchor and WBGO-FM host Michael Hill with the documentary’s director and producer Stanley Nelson and other notables. American Masters—Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool includes mature language and subject matter.

On the soundstage, the Apollo presents Apollo Open House 2020: For the Cool Kids. Hosted by the Apollo Music Café’s Jodine Dorce with Apollo Music Café DJ Hard Hittin’ Harry, this event offers various satellite activities for youth, including the screening of the new PBS KIDS special The Rhythm and Roots of Arthur presented by THIRTEEN, WBGO Kids Jazz presents I Have a Song Inside My Heart™, performances from the National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s Oom Bop Sh’Bam, Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling’s “What is Cool about Harlem,” and ImageNation’s screening of award-winning miniseries, Little Apple.
