The news is out: The Museum of Ice Cream is coming back to NYC to stay. The popular series of Instagrammable installations is an early entry in what has become a bona fide trend (here are several more in the city worth checking out). The new flagship of MOIC will open this fall at a date to be announced.
Although the folks at MOIC have plenty of surprises up their sleeves, they have revealed that this location will be bigger and better than ever. The Soho iteration of this “experium,” a term trademarked by the founders, will be 25,000 square feet in size and cover three floors. The 13 installations will include a three-story slide, a hall of gigantic scoops, and a larger version of its famous sprinkle-filled pool. Inspired by its home city, the museum will also contain a Celestial Subway. It’s all created in the spirit of childhood imagination and limitless possibility, with ice cream as the central symbol of the project.
At your journey through the experience, you’ll also have a chance to try branded MOIC ice cream flavors. The 7 Museum of Ice Cream flavors include Churro Churro, Queen Bee, and PB&P (Peanut Butter & Pretzel). Not only can ticket-holders experience the sweetness, but this new location will also contain an ice cream shop and retail store that will be open to the public. After a successful run in the Meatpacking District in 2016, founder Maryellis Bunn has taken the Museum of Ice Cream, which began its life as a pop-up, to several different cities, including San Francisco, Miami, and Los Angeles. According to a press release, 1.5 million visitors have experienced MOIC across all locations. The San Francisco location has also become a permanent museum, and MOIC’s new parent company, Figure8, has announced plans to take the concept to many other cities worldwide.
The New York MOIC is currently taking names for its ticketing waitlist. Tickets will go on sale October 9.
