Mike Doughty - Monty Hall
November 03, 2019 - Jersey City

Mike Doughty performs Soul Coughing's classic "Ruby Vroom" album at Monty Hall to celebrate it's 25th Anniversary.Mike Doughty, the singer, songwriter, producer, author and founder of seminal 90s band Soul Coughing will be playing their debut LP Ruby Vroom in full across the U.S. in 2019.Doughty will be joined on these dates by a full band. While they will be performing Ruby Vroom in its entirety, in the original sequence, what the audience experiences will be different each night. When I was looking for something to do between album cycles I decided to tour Irresistible Bliss in full explains Doughty. It was incredibly fun forcing myself to work within that structure. Or to Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann, for his laughably prolific output. Or to any number of artists whove expanded the parameters and function of ethnic tradition. Jazz Times

November 05, 2019 - New York

Sergei Rachmaninoff's a cappella Vespers and Maurice Durufl's Requiem were composed in the shadows of the two world wars. Drawing upon the traditions of chant in the Eastern and Western rites, they offer a sublime transcendence that shimmers in the Cathedral's resonant acoustics. Contralto Kirsten Sollek and tenor John Riesen are the featured soloists in Rachmaninoff's Vespers. Sollek and baritone David Pike are joined by Arthur Fiacco, Jr. (cello) and David Briggs (organ) in this intimate performance of Durufl's Requiem. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the Jukes evolved as more of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition.

Julia JacklinThe second full-length album from Australian singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin, Crushing embodies every possible meaning of its title word. Its an album formed from sheer intensity of feeling, an in-the-moment narrative of heartbreak and infatuation. And with her storytelling centered on bodies and crossed boundaries and smothering closeness, Crushing reveals how our physical experience of the world shapes and sometimes distorts our inner lives. This album came from spending two years touring and being in a relationship, and feeling like I never had any space of my own, says the Melbourne-based artist. For a long time I felt like my head was full of fear and my body was just this functional thing that carried me from point A to B, and writing these songs was like rejoining the two.The follow-up to her 2016 debut Dont Let the Kids Win , Crushing finds Jacklin continually acknowledging whats expected of her, then gracefully rejecting those expectations. As a result, the album invites self examination and a possible shift in the listeners way of getting around the worldan effect that has everything to do with Jacklins openness about her own experience.
